The first morning of the holiday was also Derin’s birthday. At 8 a.m. we set out for Rineia, ate breakfast at sea, swam, exchanged holiday greetings and called Derin.
Rineia and sacred Delos beside it carry the myth of the birth of Apollo and Artemis. In the afternoon we crossed to Syros. Ferry traffic kept us out of Ermoupoli, so we anchored in Vari Bay. That evening we rode our electric bicycles to Ermoupoli and back. Its marble streets, Italian air, Miaouli Square, blue-domed Church of St Nicholas and Apollo Theatre all impressed us. We learned that the Catholic and Orthodox communities celebrate Easter together, tasted Syros delight and spent the night at anchor in Vari.
