The engines started at 6.00 am, and by 10.00 we were anchored in Desporinero Bay on Tilos, alone in the broad inlet.
Berfin swam ashore and began collecting rubbish. Derin suggested taking bags and joining her. On the beach we found a billy goat with its head trapped in wire. After a long effort, and with Captain İbrahim’s help, we freed it. It looked as if it had been stuck there for days. Berfin recalled a line from Dune: “Face your fear.”
The chance of travelling from Türkiye to Tilos and meeting that particular goat at that particular moment stayed with us. The sea was wonderful and the weather calm.
In the late afternoon we moved to Livadia Bay. I finally opened the fishing season with two small catches. At Armenon Restaurant, two glasses of ouzo and an excellent dinner completed a beautiful day on the island of the dwarf elephants.
