Memory, wine and Neruda

After The Singular's nice breakfast, Gökhan felt bad and stayed at the hotel. We girls went to Museo de la Memoria. As soon as it opened, the first tour was ours at 10:15. With our young and very sweet guide, we learned the history and human rights violations of Chile's Pinochet military coup, which ended the Allende period on September 11, 1973.

It is impossible not to be heartbroken. Although there are stories of 3 thousand people, the real number is said to be 300 thousand, the story of torture, ill-treatment and missing people; we listened to military propaganda and the story of America supporting the coup against communism.

It is very important for a country to confront its past so that it does not make the same mistakes again. Visibility of human rights violations and torture; To say to the new generation, "We did wrong, you don't do it." However, despite everything, since Pinochet has not been tried and the constitution from the military period has still not been completely changed, it seems that the spirits have not cooled and the sense of justice in the society has not been fully achieved.

The saddest part was that a woman in her 60s was looking for her missing relative. She burst into tears and showed us a photograph of her missing relative as a young person on her phone. Pain does not leave us throughout our lives.

We tasted Chilean wines at the Lastarria Vintage Festival at noon. We tried wines made from Carmenere grapes. Like Merlot or Malbec, it has a distinctive, full-bodied character and is easy to drink.

We then tried Chilean desserts shaped by the German influence on the country’s coffee and pastry culture.

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes is in an elegant French-style glass-domed building. It consists of exhibitions by Chilean artists. We walked right across the street and went to Bella Vista. This place is a different world with its graffiti, cafes and nightclubs. The biggest surprise of Bella Vista was our visit to Neruda's house.

The house, which was looted during the Pinochet period, was rebuilt in accordance with the original by his wife Matilde, with great effort at that time. Neruda, who is also a close friend of Nâzım, is Chile's second and best-known writer who received a Nobel Prize. There are thousands of objects, paintings and antiques in the house. A refined, unique and different house; full of surprises.

Snack at the Mexican restaurant and return to the hotel early. In the evening, have a snack on the upper floor of the hotel and go to bed early.
