February 2, 2026 | Nuwara Eliya – Galle – Koggala
Leaving the high and cool stream region, we went south to the shores of the Indian Ocean. As the road progressed, misty mountains were replaced by palm trees and tropical coastal views.
When we reached Galle, a completely different Sri Lanka welcomed us. Galle Castle, whose foundations were laid by the Portuguese and developed during the Dutch period; it still carries the history of the city with its walls, narrow streets, colonial buildings and lighthouse. Our guide was great too.
As you walk through the old town, you feel that European colonial architecture and South Asian life are intertwined. We finished the day with the sun starting to set over the city walls and the Indian Ocean.
