Orhaniye, Bencik and Kocaada

We left Dirsekbükü for Orhaniye to buy fuel for the tender, passing Beş Adalar and Kargı Island on the way. We noted the establishment in Girneyit Bay for a future journey. At Kocabahçe we also saw Balıkçı Mehmet’in Yeri, known for using produce from its own garden.

In Orhaniye we had breakfast, bought fuel and looked at Kızkumu. It was very crowded and the water was cloudy, so we chose not to swim. We then continued to Bencik, whose long, narrow shape gives it the feeling of a fjord.

At first we anchored off the abandoned MTA camp. Later we moved to the south side of Kocaada, near Güzelbahçe Bay. The new anchorage was quiet and clean, although windy. It was a day shaped by practical errands, changing conditions and the quiet satisfaction of finding the right place to spend the night.
