Windy Rhodes and Lindos

The weather is hot today. The wind reaches up to 30-35 knots. We had rented a car from last night; Give me your hand, Lindos.

The weather is hot today. The wind reaches up to 30-35 knots. We had rented a car from last night; Give me your hand, Lindos.

This time we are visiting Rhodes by land. The island does not look very bright at first glance. The beaches are filled with all-inclusive hotels. It is as if the construction was completed in the 2000s and the same "fill-unload" system has been operating since then. Aesthetics and pleasure are in the background; but the sea and the sun are still strong. Rhodes is a barren island. The forest is sparse, only grass clings where the strong wind allows.

After about an hour's journey, we reach Lindos, 40 kilometers away. The city founded by the Dorians was settled on an elevation in the middle of two natural harbors. Easy to defend, sheltered ports; Geographically, it is one of the most accurate points on the island. If it were me, I would build the city here too.

The village is very crowded. We find a nice breakfast place and eat bougatsa, a local cinnamon pastry. Our dessert resembles Kurdish pastry.

Then little St. We are swimming in Paul Bay. Even though it is crowded, the sea is magnificent when we go offshore: it is rocky, deep and the temperature is just right. Who knows what these shores have witnessed for thousands of years? Above, the castle walls and temple ruins stand in all their glory.

Since we are already past the age of climbing the hills without a break, we are taking a short drink break.

When we cannot find a place on Lindos beaches, we go to Agathi. Another castle ruin on our right, light blue waters in front of us... The sea is turquoise, sandy and magnificent. The wind makes itself felt; it raises the dust of the road into the air.

Five minutes later, we sit in a tavern in Haraki. Scallops and Greek salad accompanied by ouzo are the simplest but most accurate menu of the day.

We were on the boat around 18:00; the wind still continues. There is a Spain-France World Cup match in the evening. Although heated conversations at dinner sometimes increase tension, friendship wins in the end.

We watch the match as much as technical problems allow. I go to bed early; Fortunately, it is cool inside the cabin. Spain wins the match 2-0. I think they are by far the better team and still my favourite.
